History of Body Sugaring
By Erica Rowe
Sugaring as a form of hair removal dates back the Middle East to the early 1900 BC. Back then beauty was measured by youthful, soft, hairless skin, and the same standard can still be seen today. The first forms of sugar may have been pure honey. At the time brides were expected to completely remove all body hair and be presented to their groom with smooth, hair free skin. Hair free skin was also helpful for hygiene given the lack of daily showers.
Traditional Middle Eastern sugaring paste used by Persian women was called “moum” and is still a highly sought after treatment of choice in parts of the world.
